1. Use low JPEG quality. The ideal is in the region of 10% (or even less). Experiment and decide whats best for your site. Small images mean that visitors with 14.4 modems are going to be happier, the load on your server is lower.
2. You can script an ftp program (like fetch 2.1.2 (free on the net)) to send the image files to a UNIX server if you have one.
